Pre-Surgical Phone Call

Approximately one week prior to your surgery, a nurse from the surgery center will contact you.  If you are under the age of 18, we must speak with a parent or legal guardian.

If you have not heard from the Pre-Surgical Nurse three business days before your surgery, please contact us at (248) 662-1500.

During this phone call, you will be asked to provide the following information:

Your Medical History including:

  • The name and phone number of your primary care doctor
  • The name and phone number of your cardiologist or any specialist that you see on a regular basis
  • Your current height and weight
  • Problems with blood pressure
  • Cardiac problems, cardiac surgery, cardiac testing, blood clots
  • Breathing problems including sleep apnea, with or without CPAP, any use of oxygen
  • Diabetes, hypoglycemia
  • Stomach/intestinal concerns – GERD, ulcers, colitis, etc.
  • Liver, kidney, or thyroid disease
  • Previous stroke, mini stroke, or seizures
  • Bleeding problems
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Any infectious disease, recent illness, or infection
  • Smoking history and amount of alcohol used

Your surgical history including:

  • List of previous surgeries and approximate dates
  • Any complications with the surgeries
  • Any problems with anesthesia or family history of problems with anesthesia
  • Any implants currently in your body

Medications you are currently taking including:

  • Prescription medications with name, dosage and when it is taken
  • Any medications taken on an “as needed basis”
  • Any vitamins or herbal supplements
  • Any “over the counter” medications
  • Any diet aids or appetite suppressants

Allergies:

  • All allergies to medications including type of reaction (if known)
  • Food allergies
  • Allergies to latex or adhesives

Other information needed:

  • Any special needs that you may have
  • The best phone number for us to contact you the day prior to your surgery and the day after surgery

At this time, you will also be given the information you will need to prepare for your surgical procedure and the nurse will answer any questions you may have.
